An item reported that in the Black Sea port of Izmail [nowadays Ukraine] Soviet ocean going tugs were sighted with the dimensions 45 x 8 x 3-5 metres and fitted out with 1.500hp steam engines. Their crews numbered 20-25 men, in the winter increased to around 30 men. If they were armed was not known. The tugs were built at Galati, Romania and at the Gheorghiu-Dej shipyard at Budapest, Hungary between 1950-1952. Normally these tugs were nog active in Duty and came apparently from Odessa and earlier seen in the Romanian harbours Sulina and Galina. The regular tugs serving at Izmail were the old navy tug Anapa and the in 1948 built diesel tug Batun.(1)
