Russian gunboat Giliack (1) visited Sabang, (2) Dutch East Indies between 22-24 April 1900.
Notes
1. The Gilyak laid down at the New Admiralty shipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia in May 1896, launched on 5 October 1897, completed in June 1899, sunk at Port Arthur by Japanese gunfire on 8 December 1904 and blown up by her own crew on 2 January 1905.
2. Sabang had an important coal bunkering station. The Dutch newspaper Haagsche courant dated 18 April 1900 wrote that the harbour of Poeloe Weh had more and more the attention of the Russian navy while her commanding officers were very satisfied with the facilities and the cheap coal. The likelihood that Sabang would became the coal- and water station for the Russian war- and voluntary fleet underway to their Far East naval base.
