An item reported that the Tenth Anniversary of the October Revolution Shipyard, Astrakhan, Soviet Union was responsible for the major and minor repairs of tugs and barges. The steam steel build tugs consisted of 2 two types namely a paddle wheel and screw driven version. General dimensions were 50 x 10 x 3 (above the waterline) metres. Horsepower 800hp. Each tug had one short wave radio and a small generator on board. The steering and anchor mechanisms were operated with small steam engines. The crew numbered 24 men.
Performance of the screw driven tug was a speed varying between 6 (towing full barge)-10 (towing empty barge)-15 (alone) knots with a range of 300 nautical miles. With a speed of 8 miles was it possible to turn 360 degrees within 1 minute.
