An item reported that on the section Wroclaw-Redzin-Gryfino [the former German places Breslau-Ransern-Greifenhagen] the Polish twin screw steam tug Kupala master (fnu) Buchwald was active. Built in the Netherlands.
This section was considered to be one of the more difficult parts of the river due to lacking sufficient maintenance. With water level it was quite common that shipping was impossible while alluvial sand deposits at Gorzyca [former German Goeritz] near Kostrzyn [former German Kuestrin] were not regularly dredged. Other problems were to be expected in the Frankfirt/Oder-Slubice area where bridges were (re)built. Scaffolding made separation of the convoys there necessary and with the assistance of special small motor tugs were the barges. The result was an obligatory night stop.
