The NV Ingenieurskantoor voor Scheepvaart know as IvS or Inkavos was despite the Dutch name a dummy firm founded in the The Hague, Netherlands after the First World Ear by the German navy to maintain and improve the German submarine knowledge. The firm was set up in the Netherlands to escape the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles. There were for several countries submarine and surface vessels designed, so also for the Royal Romanian navy. Project 340.
Dimensions circa 15,20 (waterline)-16,10 (over all) x 3,00 (on trusses) x 3,00 (hold sides mid section below upper deck) x circa 0,755 (construction draught keel in center) metres and a displacement of 15,27 (type)-around 15,80 cubic (builders displacement) metres. Start stability at builders displacement MG=0,50 metres. Machinery was to consist of 2-86hp Carraro engines allowing a speed of 8 (cruise)-12 (maximum) knots. Gas oil bunker capacity with builders displacement 400 kilo and a range of 100 nautical miles with cruise speed. The armament was to consist of 1 heavy machinegun in an armoured turret with 6.000 rounds, 2 light dual purpose machineguns against air craft and vessels with 6.000 rounds, 5 carbines with 800 rounds and one pistol with 50 rounds. Hull divided into 5 compartments by 4 watertight bulkheads. Sides armour protected between timbers 12-26 stretching 2cm below empty draught condition. Main structure an structure above the engine room between timbers 13-25 protected, the main deck between timbers 12-16 and the upper deck between timbers 18-25.
