The projected Romanian armoured river gunboats in 1942


The NV Ingenieurskantoor voor Scheepvaart know as IvS or Inkavos was despite the Dutch name a dummy firm founded in the The Hague, Netherlands after the First World Ear by the German navy to maintain and improve the German submarine knowledge. The firm was set up in the Netherlands to escape the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles. There were for several countries submarine and surface vessels designed, so also for the Royal Romanian navy. Project 345 was described in a document dated The Hague, Netherlands 27 April 1942.

Builders displacement 95 ton and as dimensions 35 (waterline) x 5,2 (beam on trusses) x 2,4 (hold at sides midship section) x 1,2 (maximum draught) metres. Area midship section 4,05 square metres. Calculating the resistance in the water and with a horsepower of 1.300hp was a speed of around 20 knots possible and could a speed of 19-19,5 knots be guaranteed. As armament was proposed 1-4,7cm gun in an armoured turret, Romanian construction, placed fore. The engineers office asked for metadata like weight of the complete turret, weight of ammunition, the number of gun crew and so on. Aft were 1x-2cm machineguns planned in a turret of Rheinmetal (the machineguns were fitted above the other). Along each side of the main structure were 2x1 heavy machine guns of Romanian manufacture in turrets  similar to the so-called Schaluppen project 340 planned, firing angle between straight ahead and straight aft (180 degrees). The anti-aircraft armament could consist of non protected light or heavy machineguns on the deck or bridge, just like the Romanian navy desired. The 1x2-2cm machineguns in the turret aft was also suited for anti-aircraft defence. The armour at the sides was 1,8cm thick stretching below the waterline 2xm, the thickness of the deck armour 1,2cm. The armour at the waterline in fore and aft ship was also 1,2 cm. The crew was to number 25 men for which one week victuals and fresh water was to be stored on board. The fuel bunker capacity should be enough for a range of 300-350 nautical miles with a speed of 1round 14 knots; calculated was a oil consumption of 0,2 kilo/hp/hour and half machine power or around 650hp.
