The results of the Dutch Greenland whalers according to the Dutch newspaper Opregte Leydse courant dated 4 September 1702

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 2nd reported the arrival on the river Maas, Netherlands the day before the arrival of comamndeur Matys Pieterse with the ship Harderin coming from Greenland with one dead whale. On 20 August he was  south of Hitland [Shetland] stopped by a French 12 gun privateer of St. Malo who forced him to pay 8.000 guilders to be released. He stated that 2 days earlier 3 privateers armed with respectively 36, 42 and 44 guns captured the Wakende Boey of Otto Mattyz de Jonge with 3,5 whale and the Hoop of Otto Mattyz de Oude with 2 whales which were shot dead and a fourth whaler, probably Gerbrant van de Velde with 4 whales was chased by the largest privateers/ According to a list they brought with them had 60 whalers catches nothing at all, Jan van de Velde 15 whales, Bastiaan de Braassem 6 whales, Aalsmeer and P. Dirkze combined totally 11 whales, Liefde van Delfshaven 5,5 whale, Schagen n6 whales, Vreede 7 whales of 370 quardelen, Pieter Willemsz 8 (?), Bonte Walvis 8 whales, Vergulde Walvis 8 whales, Zwarte Walvis 4 whales, Admiraal Willem Bastiaansz 3 (?) whales, Eendragt van Staveren 4 whales, Sussana 5 whales, Gulde Klok 3 or whales, 60 barrels, Jacob Huygen 7 whales, the two Breugels together 3 whales, Adriaan Klaassen 6 whales, Geyn Jansz 7 whales, Czaat vab Moscovien 5 whales, Zoeteman zero, although later was said 2 whales, Sibrant Blom 6 whales, Marten Janz 3 whales, Riewers de Jut 3,5 whale, D. Gerrets 1 whale, Kous 2 whales and Allert Alderz zero catch. Stayed were 6-8 French whalers and 2 of Hamburg.
