Japanese cargo ship Aratama Maru 1937-1944
Gross tonnage 6.874 tons, net tonnage 4.058 tons, deadweight 10.040 tons and as dimensions 446.5 x 49.1 x 33.8 feet. Range 25.000 nautical miles with a speed of 13 knots. Horsepower 398 nhp/300 ihp. Fuel oil bunker capacity 3.000 tons. Speed 13 (normal cruising)-16 (maximum) knots. Laid down by Tsurum Seitetsu Zosen K.K., Tsurumi, Japan for account of Tamai Syosen K.K., Kobe, Japan on 16 October 1937, launched on 23 July 1938, completed on 4 November 1938, acquired by the Imperial Japanese navy on 26 August 1941, on 4 September 1941 started at Kawasaki Zosen K.K. the conversion into an ammunition ship, completed on 16 October 1941 and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Seahorse on 12 April 1944 in the Lalofofo Bay, Guam. Partly salvaged shortly after and again in the 1960s. Hull and part of the superstructure remained. Call sign JKHM.
