Auction of the Dutch whaler Vrouw Helena in 1759


Auction at the Nieuwezyds Heeren Loogement, Amsterdam, Netherlands on Monday 17 September1759 at 18:00 o’clock of the Dutch whaler Vrouw Helena, extra ordinary well sailing, fluyt, commandeur Riewert Jansz, built in 1734, dimensions 113¼ (prow) x 29.3 x 12.7, verdeck 6.7 and stuurplecht 8/8 all in Amsterdam feet. Sold for 5.800 Dutch guilders to Robbert Makreel.(1)

1.Greenland whaler. Riewert Jansz was between 1754-1764 active for bookkeeper Robbert Makreel, catch results 1758: ½ whale, 11 barrels whale blubber, 14 quardelen whale oil, 1759: 2-110--163 and 1760: ½-19-27. In 1759 also mentioned as Davis Strait whaler with zero catch results. Alphabetische naam-lyst van alle de Groenlandsche en Straat-Davidsche Commandeurs die sedert het jaar 1700 op Groenland en sedert het jaar 1719 op de Straat Davis etc. Gerret van Sant.
