Former USS Elbert (DE-768) of the Cannon-class destroyer escorts, preceded by the Buckley-class and succeeded by the Edsall-class. Laid down by Tampa Shipbuilding Company, Tampa, Florida on 1 April 1943, launched on 11 May 1944, commissioned on 12 July 1944, decommissioned on 14 June 1946, handed over to Greece under the MDAP on 1 March 1951, stricken US Navy list on 7 March 1951, renamed Ierax (D31), stricken in 1991 and sunk as target during naval exercises in July 2002 near Crete in the Aegean Sea. Original technical details. Displacement 1.260 (standard)-1.646 (full load) tons and as dimensions 91 (waterline)-93 (over all) x 11,23 x 3,56 metres or 300-306 x 36.10 x 11.8 feet. Machinery consisted of electric driven 4 GM Model 16-278A diesels supplying via 2 screws 6.000 shp allowing a speed of 21 knots. With a speed of 12 knots was her range 10.800 nautical miles. Crew numbered 216 men. Armament consisted of 3x1-7,6cm/3” 50 cal guns, 1x2-4cm/1.57” Ml.1 anti aircraft gun, 8-2cm Mk.4 anti aircraft guns, 3-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes, 1 Hedgehog Mk. 10 anti submarine mortar for which she carried with her 144 rounds, 8 Mk. 6 depth charge projectors and 2 Mk. 9 depth charge tracks.  

The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad dated Thursday 23 July 1959 announced her non-official visit on Saturday morning at Rotterdam. Commanding officer was captain lieutenant Th. Lymberakis, she was used as training ship with on board 14 officers, 111 sailors and 115 midshipmen. Another Dutch newspaper Het vaderland dated 23rd sail that that the visit was planned for 25-29 July and that her crew numbered 240 men. The last newspaper also reported on 30 July 1958 a nonofficial visit at Amsterdam between 5-7 August. She was then crewed with 15 officers, 105 midshipmen and 113 sailors.
