Catch results of German Greenland whalers according to the Dutch newspaper Goudasche courant dated 14 July 1797

An item reported the arrival on the Elbe, Germany on 3 July by commandeur Hans H. Tonnies returning from Greenland with 10 whales 120 quardelen and 88 quardelen seal blubber. He left the 78 degrees on 11 June and Jan Mayen Island on 19 June. He stated that the 47 whalers of Hamburg caught totally 143 whales. The ice area was not broad just 30 miles from the foreland. There were a lot of whales mostly small just a few large ones. He expected very good results. Commandeur M. Meeuw caught 5 whales and C. or P. Klorn [?] 7 whales, of the other whalers he possessed none details.
