Allied Murmansk convoy PQ 16 heavily attacked by German forces according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee daily summary dated 29 May 1942

An item reported that the eastbound Allied convoy for north Russia was attacked by submarines and aircraft following the air attack described in the daily summary No. 168 dated 27 May. In that same summary was said that the convoy was westbound which was not correct. Six cargo ships were sunk and several cargo ships damaged just like the escorting Polish destroyer. (1)

1. The ORP Garland was damaged on 27 May during an air attack while escorting Convoy PQ 16. Laid down as the British HMS Garland (H37) by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering, Govan, Scotland on 22 August 1934, launched on 24 October 1935, loaned to Poland on 3 May 1940 and same day commissioned, decommissioned and given back to the Royal Navy on 24 September 1946, sold to the Netherlands on 14 November 1946m renamed Marnix on 16 January 1950, decommissioned on 31 January 1964 and broken up. G-class destroyer, preceded by E and F classes and succeeded by I-class.
