In his report wrote the British consular-Agent Monsen at Tønsberg that during the herring fishery along the south coast in November-December 7 steamships were used for whaling in the mouth of the Christiana Fjord and totally caught about 70 whales. However as this was not their core business these vessels had not the equipment on board for boiling the blubber. The profit was disappointing compared with the possible profit if the boiling was done by whaling stations. The cold weather would prevent further whale catching that season.
