The German submarines in the west Atlantic Ocean according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 18 May 1942

An item reported the estimated locations of submarines of the enemy in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean on 17 May: 2 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, 2 between Halifax and Cope Cod, 1 between Cape Cod and Cape May, 3 in the area Cape Hatteras-Cape Lookout, 2 in the area Cape Carnaveral-Miami, 3 in the Gulf of Mexico between the Mississippi delta and Tortugas, 1 south of Jamaica, 3 in the eastern part of the Caribbean, 1 eastward of Trinidad, 5 west- and 4 eastward bound travelling north of the latitude of Cape Cod, 3 west- and 1 eastbound travelling between the latitude of Cape Cod-Cape Hatteras and 2 west- and 3 eastbound travelling in the latitudes south of Cape Hatteras, totally 36 boats.
