Of the Arrogant-class, preceded by the Eclipse-class and succeeded by the Pelorus-class. Launched at the Chatham Dockyard on 9 December 1897, commissioned in 1899 and used as a block ship in the harbour of Ostend, Belgium on 10 May 1918. The wreck was salvaged on 16 August 1920 and broken up. Displacement 5.750 tons and as dimensions 97.5 (between perpendiculars)-104.2 (over all) x 17.5 x 6.1 metres or 320-342 x 57.6 x 20 feet. The 2 vertical triple expansion steam engines and 18 Belleville water tube boilers delivered 10.000 ihp to the two screws allowing a speed of 19 knots. Her crew numbered 480 men. Armour consisted of a 3.8cm/1.5’- 7,6cm/3” thick deck and with the conning tower protected by 22.9cm/9”. . The original armament consisted of 4-15.2 cm/6” cal 40 quick firing guns and 6-12cm/4.7” quick firing guns, later replaced by 10-15.3cm/6” breech loading Mk VII naval guns, 8-7.6cm/3”/ 12pd guns, 3-4.7cm/3pd quick firing guns, 5 machine guns and 3-45cm/18” torpedo tubes.
