French whaling bark Asia visited Honolulu, Hawaii according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 1 February 1845

An item reported the arrival at Honolulu, Hawaii on 28 January of the French whaling bark Asia captain Lemaison coming in 50 days from Japan, 1.000 barrels whale oil. She was harrassed in a typhoon on the geographical position 27 degrees North 149 degrees East, she lost sails, boat, davises, rails and bulwarks, her hull and rigging suffered much and she was making water. She visited two Japanese harbours but the Japanese did not allow the Asia to whale or to stay under any pretence whatsoever. Needed supplies were offered and given just like wood, rice, refusing payment but ordered the Asia to depart immediately.
