American whaler Phenix visited Payta, Peru according to the newspaper The Inquirer and Mirror dated Wednesday 1 January 1834

An item reported that the American whaler Phenix master Wilbur visited Payta, Peru for repairs after she was been run foul by the ship Indian of London in the night of 8 July 1833 and departed for Nantucket on 12 September wanting 80 barrels oil.
