Former Japanese screw steam gunboat Uji used as floating penitentiary and fishing vessel in 1938

A letter of the German naval attache in Japan dated Tokyo, Japan 12 Mat 1938 reported that the former gunboat Uji of 540 tons was handed over to the penitentiary to accommodate 40-50 juvenile criminals. The ship was on 27 April brought from Sasebo towards the Omura Bay. After an intensive conversion was the ship also to be used in the fishery.(1)

1. The screw steam gunboat Uji was laid down at the Kure Naval Arsenal in September 1903, launched on 11 August 1903, commissioned on 11 August 1904, stricken on 1 April 1936 and broken up on 25 August 1934 according to the literature.
