The American whaling fleet in 1846 according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 18 July 1846

An item reported that the American whaling fleet consisted of 680 ships and barks, 34 brigs, 22 schooners and a sloop or totally 233,262 tons which was an increase pf 15.607 tons compared with 1845 and 33,115 tons compared with the situation on 1 January 1844.
