Launched at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, New Hampshire, USA on 23 October 1843, commissioned on 10 November 1844, decommissioned on 14 July 1878, became a training ship, stricken on 17 April 1915, sold and was lost by fire in the harbour of Boston, USA during the carnival in the night of 6-7 September 1915.
Wood built. Designed by Josiah Barker using the basic lines of a French-built privateer, With a tonnage of 1.022 tons and as dimensions 46.28 x 11.35 x 5.03 metres or 151.10 x 38.3 x 17.2 x 16.6-17.5 (maximum) feet. Crew numbered 227 men including 27 marines. The armament consisted of 18 medium 32-pound guns and 2-64 pound Paixhans shell guns. Water bunker capacity 21.000-25.000 gallons and provisions for 6 months. Speed 11.6 (on a wind)-14 (free) knots.
