American whaler Heroine wrecked on Palmerston Island according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 27 February 1847

An item reported that in October 1846 the American whaler Heroine master West of Fair Haven was wrecked on Palmerston Island [coral atoll in the Cook Islands, Pacific Ocean]. Of the 1.000 barrels oil were 300 salvaged. Despite that she was lost in the night only one crewmember was killed. The Alert master Middleton of New London rescued her crew and landed them on 1 December in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
