An item reported that the American whaling ship Panama captain Cummings of Fall River, USA was stranded and totally wrecked on the island Dominica, Marquesas Group on 10 August as a result of a heavy swell which also suddenly died away. She was 31 months out 450 barrels whale oil 500 barrels sperm oil of which just 75 barrels sperm oil was saved. Of her crew drowned boat-steerer M’Daniel and the foremast hands Smith and Indian Jack.(1)
