An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies 11th reported the departure of the British cruiser Porpoise captain Sturdee towards Sydney, Australia. (1) The Soerabaijsch handelsblad dated 16 February claimed that she was destined to the Thursday Islands [Thursay Island is part of the Torres Strait Island, Australia] under lieutenant 1st class F..C.D. Sturdee. The Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 9 February reported her arrival while on a voyage from Portsmouth via Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said, Aden and Colombo. She was bound for Thursday Island as reinforcement of the Australian squadron.
