An item reported that an American submarine while patrolling in the Coral Sea on 11 May attacked a Japanese cruiser probably of the Kako-class striking her with 3 torpedoes. The Kako-class measured 7.100 tons, main armament consisted of 8” guns and completed in 1926. Japanese destroyers immediately attacked the American submarine.

1. The Furataka-class consisted of the in 1926 commissioned Kako and the Furutaka with 6x1-20cm/7.9” guns, they were sunk respectively 11 October and 10 August 1942.
