British battleship King Edward VII lost according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 10 January 1916

An item dated London, England 9 January reported that the British battleship King Edward VII hit a mine and was to be abandoned sinking within a short time. Her crew numbering 780 men was rescued with just 2 sailors slight wounded. The 16.600 tons battleship was built in 1903 with an armament of 4-30.5 cm/12” guns, 4-23.4 cm/9.2” guns, 10-15.2 cm/6” guns, 12-7.6 cm guns, 12-4.7 cm/1.9” guns and 4-45 cm/18” torpedo tubes.(1)

Of the King Edward VII-class battleships, preceded by Duncan-class, succeeded by Swiftsure-class. Laid down by Devonport Dockyard on 8 March 1902, launched on 23 July 1903, completed in February 1905 and lost off Cape Wrath, Scotland on 6 January 1916.
