An item reported that according to master Briggs of the whaler Formosa in July 1847 the American whaling bark Damen master Davenport was wrecked on Chatham Island [Chatham Islands, New Zealand] and totally lost, Part of the cargo was salvaged. At that moment she was loaded with 280 barrels sperm oil.
