The Latvian navy according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 35 for the week ending 3 September 1921

An item reported that according to the press consisted the Latvian navy of the Virsaiti(s) which was a former German guard ship sunk in 1917 in Latvian water, afterwards salvaged and repaired and 3 armed tugs.(1)

1. Ex-Sarkana Latvija?, former German M1916 type minesweeper SMS M68, laid down at Rostock, Germany in 1916, launched on 25 July 1917, sunk off Latvia on 29 October 1917, salvaged, repaired and in Latvian service in January 1919, in Russian hands on 13 August 1940 as the Viesaytis (T-297) and lost after striking a mine in the Gulf of Finland on 2 December 1941.
