The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1912-1913 reported that the French cruiser 1st class Klèber visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies between 20-23 January 1913. The Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 22 January reported her arrival at Sabang for an intended visit of 3 days. Described as measuring 7.700 tons, completed in 1903 and armed with 8 heavy and 14 smaller guns.

1. Part of the Dupleix-class armoured cruisers, preceded by Gueydon-class, succeeded by Gloire-class, building ordered on 28 December 1897, laid down by Forges et Chantiers de la Gironde, Bordeaux, France in early 1899, launched on 20 September 1902, commissioned on 4 July 1904 and sunk on 27 June 1917 after striking a mine of the German submarine UC-61 underway to France from her station Dakar, French West Africa to be decommissioned.
2. Sabang was then an important coal bunker station also used by foreign warships.
