French warships d’Assas, Javeline and Pistolet sent to the Far East according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 23 February 1904


An item dated Paris, France 18th reported that 240 French naval sailors were sent to the Far East. The French warships d’Assas (1), Javeline (2) and Pistolet (3) were sent to the Far East to strengthen the French squadron there. Their commanders received sealed orders.

Notes

1. Part of the D’Assas-class protected cruisers, preceded by Descartes-class, succeeded by Catinat-class, laid down by Ateliers en Chantiers de la Lore, Saint-Nazaire, France in 1894, launched on 28 March 1896, completed in March 1898 and stricken and sold to be up in 1914.

2. Javeline of the Arquebuse-clas destroyers, building ordered in 1900, laid down by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire, Nantes, France in November 1900, launched on 15 October 1902 and stricken on 12 January 1920.

3. Pistolet of the Arquebuse-clas destroyers, building ordered in 1900, laid down by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire, Nantes, France in September 1901, launched on 2 March 1904, stricken on 19 September 1919 and sold to be broken up on 6 May 1920.
