Allied aircraft successfully attacked Japanese destroyers in the Solomon Islands-area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 30 August 1942

An item reported that US aircraft stationed on Guadalcanal sighted on 27 August in the Solomon Islands 1 small and 3 large Japanese destroyers scoring one hit on the small one which was left behind crippling and set on fire. American dive bombers later attacked the large destroyers sinking one certainly and damaging a second which probably also sunk.
