Enemy submarine attacked steamship south west of Fremantle, Australia according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 5 March 1942

An item reported that a enemy submarine shelled on 3 March the screw steamship Tongario on the position 33.48 south latitude and 113.30 east longitude 150 miles south west of Fremantle, Australia. During the attack tried the submarine to jam the radio distress signal of the Tongario which seemed to be safe. The J.I.C. commented that was the first proven reported submarine activity in that area. submarine attack
