Australian submarine HMAS Ovens (S70) 1966-

Laid down by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, Scotland on 17 June 1966, launched on 4 December 1967, commissioned on 18 April 1969, decommissioned on 1 December 1996 and since November 1998 museum ship.

Of the Oberon-class submarines preceded by Porpoise-class succeeded by Upholder- and Collins-classes.Displacement 1,610 (standard)-2,030 (surfaced)-2,410 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 90.0 x 8.1 x 5.5 metres or 202.2 x 26.5 x 18 feet. Speed 12 (surfaced)-11 (snorkel depth)-17 (submerged) knots and range 9,000 nautical miles/12 knots. Test diving depth 200 metres. Crew numbered 68 men including 8 officers. Armament consisted of 6-53cm/21” torpedo tubes in the bow and 2-53cm/21” short length torpedo tubes in the stern, the latter 2 were later removed.
