Japanese single screw steam cargo ship (ex-Shakespeare 1912-1926) Mikage Maru No. 8 1926-1943

Built by Joseph L. Thompson&Sons, Sunderland, England in 1912 as the ss Shakespeare of Glover British-Shakespeare Shipping Co. Ltd., London, England, renamed Mikage Maru No. 8 in 1926. Sunk in a collision with the Nikko Maru on 29 June 1943 30 miles west of Iwanni, Japan. Gross tonnage 3,371 tons, deadweight 5,818 tons and as dimensions 342 (between perpendiculars) x 49 x 7 (light)-21.4 (loaded) feet. Speed 9.5 (cruising)-10.5 (maximum) knots, reciprocating steam machinery supplying 294 nhp. Range 13,000 miles/9.5 knots speed and a coal bunker capacity of 1,420 tons.
