American preliminary design No. 107 for Sampson-class destroyers dated 21 January 1914

This preliminary design represents the design used for building the Sampson-class destroyers, preceded by Tucker-class, succeeded by Caldwell-class. The destroyers were to be built under the Fiscal Year 1915 program. Dimensions 324 (water line) x 30.0 (waterline) x 9.6 feet. Block coefficient .436, longitudinal coefficient .606. Turbine propulsion, 2-3 boiler rooms, 8,500 ehp, speed 29.5 knots and a range of 2,500 nautical miles/20 knots. Armament consisted of 4-10.2cm/4” quick firing guns and 4x3 53cm/21” torpedo tubes mounted on deck.

Weight summary in normal condition with a displacement of 1,150 tons:

Hull complete with hull fittings 428 tons

Steam engineering 365 tons

Reserve feed 2/3 supply 12 tons

Battery 40 tons

Ammunition and 2/3 ordnance stores 32 tons

Equipment and 2/3 equipment stores with outfit and 2/3 stores 70 tons

Oil fuel 2/3 full supply 203 tons.
