Whaling barque Franklin visited Hobart Town, Tasmania according to the Colonial Times dated Friday 25 January 1850

An item reported the recent arrival of the barque Franklin master Cooper returning from the Artic Ocean 3.000 barrel oil taken between 8 June-8 September 1849. Before entering the Arctic Ocean he had been within the Antartic circle.
