Japanese armoured cruiser Tsukuba visited Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies in 1907

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1907-1908 reported that the Japanese armoured cruiser Tsukuba visited Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies between 24-25 October 1907. The Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 25 October 1907 reported the arrival of the Tsukuba (1) and Chitose (2) coming from Colombo, Ceylon destined towards Singapore. The Tsukba was described as measuring 14,545 ton and commanded by Heite Takeno-ouchi, armed with 4-3cm guns, 12-15cm guns and 12-12cm guns and a crew numbering 887 men (including 50 officers). Both ships were returning from a voyage to West-Europe including visiting Vlissingen, Netherlands.

1. Of the Tsukuba-class armoured cruisers, preceded by Kasuga-class succeeded by Ibuki-class, building ordered under 1904 Fiscal Year, laid down by Kure Naval Arsenal on 14 January 1905, launched on 26 December 1905, commissioned on 14 January 1907, reclassified as battle cruiser in 1912, blown up in the Tokyo Bay on 14 January 1917 and stricken on 1 September 1917.

2. Of the Kasagi-class protected cruisers, building ordered under the 1896 Fiscal Year, laid down by Union Iron Works , San Francisco, USA on 16 May 1897, launched on 22 January 1898, completed on 1 March 1899, decommissioned on 1 April 1928 and sunk while used as a target on 19 July 1931.
