Dutch Greenland commandeur Cornelis Avis or Aves returned home according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdamse courant dated 11 November 1710

 

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 10 November reported the arrival a day earlier off Texel by the Dutch Greenland whaler Vrindschap commandeur Cornelis Avis (1) with on board the crew of the whaler de 2 Swanen of Enkhuizen which was lost in the ice on 31 August with the crew waiting for 18 days in the ice fields for help. After she was sighted it took the sailor 3 more days to reach the Vrindschap. The Vrindschap left the ice on 65.08 degrees on 8 October just on time, while the ice closed again. In the ice where the whalers Den Dam of Uitgeest and the Swaen of Sardam [Zaandam] hailed. Their crews mentioned that north west of them they saw a fifth ship without knowing which ship. On 10 October were Den Dam and Swaen out of sight.
