Part of Muroto-class colliers. Laid down by Mitsubishi Shipyard, Kobe, Japan on 4 July 1918, launched on 23 October 1918, completed on 7 December 1918, used as coal transport in 1920s, converted into an auxiliary hospital ship in February 1932, supply ship since 1941 and sunk north of Amami Oshima by the American submarine USS Sea Dog on 22 October 1944.
Displacement 8,347 (standard)-8,890 (standing) tons and as dimensions 105.16 (between perpendiculars) x 15.24 x 7.06 metres or 345.0 x 50.0 x 23.2 feet. The triple expansion reciprocating steam engine and 2 Scotch boilers supplied via one shaft 2,500 ship allowing a speed of 12.5 knots. After the modernization in 1930 with 3 Miyahara model water tube boilers was the speed increased to 14.0 knots. Coal bunker capacity 6,000 tons. Crew numbered 124 men. Armament consisted of 2-12m/4.7” L/45 naval guns in 1932 replaced by 2-7.62cm/3” L/40 anti aircraft guns.
