Part of Muroto-class colliers. Laid down by Mitsubishi Shipyard, Kobe, Japan on 16 July 1918, launched on 3 February 1919, completed on 31 March 1919 and sunk in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea against American and Australian forces on 31 March 1943. Displacement 8,347 (standard)-8,890 (standing) tons and as dimensions 105.16 (between perpendiculars) x 15.24 x 7.06 metres or 345.0 x 50.0 x 23.2 feet. The triple expansion reciprocating steam engine and 2 Scotch boilers supplied via one shaft 2,500 ship allowing a speed of 12.5 knots. After the modernization in 1930 with 3 Miyahara model water tube boilers was the speed increased to 14.0 knots. Coal bunker capacity 6,000 tons. Crew numbered 124 men. Armament consisted of 2-12m/4.7” L/45 naval guns in 1932 replaced by 2-7.62cm/3” L/40 anti aircraft guns.
