An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 2 September reported the arrival a day earlier on the river Maas of the Dutch Greenland commandeur Mattys Pieterse with the Harderin one dead whale, was om 20 August south of Hitland [Shetland Isles] captured by a French 12-gun privateer from St. Malo and had to pay 8,000 Dutch guilders to be released. He stated that 2 days later 3 privateers armed with respectively 36, 42 and 44 guns captured the Dutch Greenland whaler de Wakende Boey commander Otte Mattyz de Jong 3,5 whale and the Hoop commandeur Otto Mattyze d’Oude 2 whales both shot dead and that the largest privateer was hunting a fourth Dutch Greenland whaler probably commandeur Gerbrant van de Velde.
