Penang, Malaysia probably enemy submarine bases according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 4 March 1942

An item reported that Penang, Malaysia would probably became the base of additional enemy submarines operating in the Indian Ocean.(1)

Note

1. The Japanese 8th Submarine Squadron was based at Swettenham Pier, George Town, Malaysia between 1942-1944. Furthermore was also the German Gruppe Monsun or Monsoon Group submarines stationed at Penang between 1943-1944 and were Italian submarines like the Marconi-class Luigi Torelli active in the Far East
