Chinese navy executing amphibious exercises according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 March 1957

An item reported that in December all 4 Chinese Gordy-class destroyers were executing exercises from Tsingtao combined with a force consisting of submarines, patrol escorts and landing craft and flying boats stationed at Yunni Sound. The presence of the submarines suggested a role in amphibious operations and part of a commando-or beach-reconnaissance capacity.
