Several Dutch warships lying condemned at navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 5 November 1882


An item reported that at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands were lying the condemned screw steamship 3rd class Zr.Ms. Cornelis Dirks (1), screw steamship 3rd class Prinses Maria (2), Royal steam yacht De Leeuw (3), gunboat No. 18, schokker No. 4 and the cutter No. 5. To these ships were the training brig Zeehond (4) and most likely also the gunboats No. 5 and 35 added, of the latter two were the masts condemned.

Screw steamship 3rd class, on stocks at Krimpen aan de Lek, Netherlands 1 May 1858, launched 11 January 1859, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 23-26 July 1859, 23-27 August 1860, 23 October-8 November 1862, 30 October-4 November 1863, 17 July 1868-7 March 1871, 5-14 June 1872, 11-14 June 1873, 17-19 June 1874, 20-30 October 1874, condemned for service abroad in October 1880, stricken 1881, dimensions 43,00 x 9,20 x 4,30 metres, 759 tons displacement, 6 guns, 100 men, 119nph/250ehp horsepower and a speed of 7 knots.

2. Screw steamship 3rd class, call sign GQRN, on stocks at the navy yard at Willemsoord, Netherlands on 17 June 1858, launched on 19 November 1862, commissioned on 1 April 1864, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 7-21 April 1865, 1-14 August 1867, 28 January-19 March 1868, 27 August-1 September 1869, 10-21 July 1871, 12 March-3 May 1872 and 2-9 September 1874, condemned 1880 and sold, building costs ƒ 349.018,72.

3. Paddle steam yacht, used as royal yacht, laid down at at Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1826, launched in 1827, regular dry docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands, lenghtened in 1842, since 1882 training ship and broken up in 1893. Dimensions 37,00 x 5,70 x 3,14 metres, 810 tons displacement. Horsepower 50 ihp. 

4. Brig 1st class, call sign GRCW, laid down at the navy yard of Rotterdam, Netherlands by C.J. Glavimans 12 January 1844, launched as last ship from that navy 12 June 1850, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 9-11 August 1854, 3-31 May 1858, 9-15 February 1861, 10-13 October 1868, 14 July-3 October 1874, 27 January-28 July 1875, 27 September-6 October 1876, 11-13 April 1878, 24-26 March 1879, training ship at Hellevoetsluis 1873, stricken and stationed at Amsterdam, Netherlands to be used by the Kon. Ned. Zeil- en Roeivereniging for training sailors berthed in the Oosterdok 1882, replaced by the Pollux 23 May 1913, sold on an auction at the navy yard at Amsterdam 11.00 oclock Wednesday 30 July, dimensions 30,5 (loadline) x 9,5 (inner hull) x 4,0 (fore)-4,5 (aft) x 4,98 (depth below main deck) metres, displacement 473 tons and an armament of 12 guns.
