French battleships Dunkerque and Strasbourg arrived at Lisbon, Portugal according to the Dutch newspaper Haagsche courant dated 4 May 1939

Dunkerque

An item reported the arrival of the French battleships Dunkerque (2) and Strasbourg (1)in the harbour of Lisbon, Portugal executing a training cruise.

Notes

1. Part of Dunkerque-class fast battleships 26,500 (standard)-35,500 (deepload) tons, preceded by planned Lyon-class and realized Bretagne-class succeeded by Richelieu-class. Built under Programme 1931. Laid down by Arsenal de Brest on 24 December 1932, launched on 2 October 1935, commissionned on 1 May 1937, scuttled on 27 November 1942, stricken in 1955 and broken up in 1958.

2. Part of Dunkerque-class fast battleships 26,500 (standard)-35,500 (deepload) tons, preceded by planned Lyon-class and realized Bretagne-class succeeded by Richelieu-class. Built under Programme 1934. Laid down by Chantiers de Penhoët, Saint Nazaire on 24 November 1934, launched on 12 December 1936, commissioned on 15 September 1938, scuttled on 27 November 1942 and sold to be broken up in 1955.
