Communist China continued building Riga-class destroyers according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 March 1957

An item reported that the first of the newly built Chinese Riga-class destroyer escort was executing her sea trials probably in he Hangcow Bay. A second one was launched on 26 September 1956. It seemed to be fitted out with a large air-warning radar (Seanet or the modified version Hairnet) mounted on a latticed tripod mast. It was almost sure that the two hulls laid down at Mollers Shipyard, Shanghai, China were also Riga-class destroyer escorts.(1)

Note

1. Jane’s Fighting Ships 1958-1959 mentioned 3 units calling these escorts with a standard displacement of 1,200 tons. The first one was launched around 28 April 1956 by Hutung Shipbuilding Factory, Shanghai with a light tripod mast.
