Communist China building Russian W-class type submarines according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 March 1957

An item reported that there was none updated about the building of submarines at Shanghai. The first two submarines of the Chinese W-class seeme dto near their completition.

Note

1. Jane’s Fighting Ships 1958-1959 mentioned the existence of at least of this Russian type medium size long range submarine with a displacement of 1,050 (standard-1,300 (surfaced)-1,500 (submerged) tons.
