An item reported that in the past months regularly frigate-type ships were sighted at Shanghai and Whampoa, Communist China. It was suggested that the navy started a building programme of large submarine chasers similar to the Soviet Kronshtadt-class. At Whampoa were six vessles built. The Kronstadt had a displacement of 380 tons full load, as dimensions 170 x 20 x 7 feet and a speed of 24 knots.(1)
Note
1. Jane’s Fighting Ships edition 1985-1959 mentioned even 18 vessels, 6 built between 1950-1953 and handed over by Russia and 12 completed at Whampoa. Project 122bis, NATO codename Kronshtadt-class.
