Japanese cargo ship (ex-Battenhall 1901-1917, Capelhall 1917-1924) Kitakata Maru 1924-1942

Launched by Blyth Shipbuilding&Drydock Co., Cowpen Quay, Blyth, United Kingdom with yard number 107on 15 August 1901, in service of the British Admiralty as store carrier between 4 August 1914-December 1914, torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Drum (SS-228) on 25 May 1942. Call sign JKRB. Gross tonnage 2,380 tons, under deck 2,050 tons, net tonnag 1,432 tons, deadweight 3,700 tons and as dimensions 286.7 x 43.3 x 19.4 x .8 (light)-18.10 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, 234 nhp. 389 tons coal bunker capacity, range 3,500 nautical miles/7.5 knots and speed 7.5 (normal cruising)-8.5 (maximum)knots.
