Japanese cargo ship Kano Maru 1932-1942

Laid down by Uraga Dock Co. Ltd., Uraga, Japan on 17 December 1932, launched on 16 September 1933, completed on 10 August 1934, requisitioned as auxiliary transport by the navy on 12 September 1941 and grounded and lost after an air attck on 15 September 1942 off Kiska Island, Aleutian Islands. Call sign JRNJ. Gross tonnage 8,572 tons, under deck 7,847 tons, net tonnage 5,152 tons, deadweight 9,731 tons and as dimensions 453.5 x 60.7 x 30.8 x 11.6 (light)-20 (loaded) feet. Diesel propulsion, horsepower 3,187 nhp/7,600 bhp, fuel oil bunker capacity including deeptanks 2,450 tons. Range 2,900 nautical miles/16 knots and speed 16 (normal cruising)-19 (maximum) knots. Able to mount 4-12.7cm/5” or 15.24cm/6” guns.
