Communist China building Russia P-6 type motor torpedo boats according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 March 1957

An item reported a remarkable increase of sightings of Chinese newly built M.T.B.’s, little doubt based on the Russian P-6 class. Armament consisted of 2-53.3cm/21” torpedo tubes and the distinctive over-and-under 2x25mm mountings fore and aft.

1. Jane’s Fighting Ships 1958-1959 confirmed the P-6 design of which 12 were completed in 1956.
